Most definitely not. Houdini was no magician he was merely a trickster, magic is NOT trickery. Anyone that tells you that is misinformed and does not know anything about magic. The whole idea of magic tricks is silly, since a trick is not really what it appears so therefore it cannot be magic.
Magic is the ability to alter the events and surroundings of a person(s) using the power possessed within them. Magic can be explained it is just that not everyone understands magic as not everyone is magical. Anyone can learn to do card tricks, it just takes time and practice. Magic is different and only some have the ability.

The "magic" performed by Houdini was nothing more than illusion and if you were properly trained, yes, you could do them. Remember that Houdini did not wake up one day and say "Hmmm, I think I'll have someone lock me in a box under water today just to see if I can get out of it" or something similar. He had YEARS of training in all the techniques he used. As for the original question of what is magic? That's a bit more difficult to explain. Some will tell you that its kind of like the "force" from star wars, an energy field that binds all living things together in a delicate balance.
Real magic, though? I think that real magic is the light in a child's eyes, the way you feel when you're in love, "I love you, mommy." That's real magic as far as I'm concerned. Everything else be damned.

magic is an illusions, along with many other things in this world....anyways, magicians are very good at what they do, they can make it appear that they are doing something very extraordinary, when in fact there is a very simple explanation. and i kind of believe that psychics/mediums, are in a way magicians also, but what they do, is a little different. have you ever seen the movie, the prestige? if not i would suggest watching it, a wonderful movie. magic, along with everything else takes a lot of practice, and a lot of skill.

Magic is the Art and Science of causing change to occur in conformity with will. Magic is manipulating the raw energy in nature, both physical and metaphysical, to produce some solid and real effect. Alot of modern science is based off of magical or occult concepts, i.e., chemistry was once Alchemy. There is, however, a real danger is such a practice. Man cant figure out his physical world which he sees...its arrogant to think he can master the spiritual world that he cant even see. ;)

"Magic" is a catch-all phrase for a belief system. If you *believe* someone can influence you at a distance or alter the world in violation of the laws of physics then they can, as far as you are concerned.
Contrary to the popular saying, seeing is *not* believing; rather, believing is seeing.
Anyone claiming to be a "real" magician or to have "magical" powers just wants your adoration and/or your money.

do you mean magic as in magic tricks? Most of us witches, pagans, sorcerers etc. refer to our kind of magic as magick to deferentiate from the showy type. And yes I do believe that both forms are magic. Are they all really explainable? I don't think so.
