I'm new at this,so if you please can give me some extra details,that'd be great..

The shortest way is to use the + and - keys.

If you open the Editor Window of Photoshop Elements 5 and click on the Brush tool you'll see that the Options bar shows the Brush options: here you can choose the brush type, shape, dimension and so on.
