I had an interview with a company for an open position last week. Everything went pretty smooth and I had a good feeling about it. Now, I was asked to come in again tomorrow to talk some more. At the first interview I was told that the hourly pay for the position is usually anywhere from 15 to 17 dollars depending on experience. I don't have any experience since I just finished college and haven't been able to work on the side.
If I am offered the job for let's say $15/hr, should I try to negotiate a little more even though I have no experience or should I just take whatever I'm offered? If you think I should try to get them a little closer towards the $17/hr, how should I do it?

Go over why you're a great candidate for the job. Explain how the employer is getting more from you than anticipated. Show them that your interest and positive attitude is worth their paying you closer to the top of the "range".

If they don't budge..... ask when they will evaluate you so you'll be able to expect an increase based on their observations of your great work ethic.

If you have a compelling reason why you should make $17, tell them. It might be some combination of your stellar college career or the fact that similar positions at other area companies pay $17 (check up on that at salary.com). If you as an employee will have to incur expenses in the course of your job, you could point to that as a reason why you deserve a surcharge for your job.

If your reason amounts to "I'd like more money", though, don't expect them to be very receptive. :-)

just accept what you've being offered! feel more than content if they are paying you for the chance to learn! your employer will certainly increase your salary as you progress and gain more experience!
