I don't know what they ask you to do, but a picture on the school website shows two separate groups of girls (five on each, I believe). There are four at the bottom, and one at the top. The ones at the bottom are holding the top girl, but not like a pyramid...kinda as if they were all carrying a trophy. I have never seen them actually perform. But I hear they train with the group of cheerleaders that performs at our city's basketball team! They must be really good, but I don't know how good you have to be to make the squad or anything. I am not extremely flexible (I can barely do a split, but I occasionally do a few squats and toning exercises, without weights or anything though), but I want to be able to do enough to get me on the squad by the end of the summer. I have previous experience with dance, but it's basically Flamenco and ballet. I don't really think that will help much! Does anyone have any ideas? Advice? Anything? Thanks,

Well if you've not got much experience you probably wont end up on the main teams - you'll probably start out in the junior team if you make it. I'd work on your flexibility all summer, and high kicks, jumping, running, push ups etc. The rest is just about being able to memorize the moves in the right time sequence and being trained to spot other girls.

Any kind of dance will help you will cheerleading. At our school tryouts we have two days, the first day you learn 4 cheers and 2 dances. The second day we have tryouts. For tryouts we had to do the 4 cheers, 2 dances, 2 jumps, show flexibility, be able to do stunts with an assigned group, and be able to yell really loud! As for your flexibility lay on your back, lift your legs spread them and then act as if you are doing crunches but make the top half of your body go through your legs, also try varsity.com and americancheerleader.com and it will have some good tryout tips.

I would suggest looking around for some local gymnastics or tumbling schools in your area & take a tumbling or cheer class over the summer. Tumbling is a major part of cheerleading & you will also gain flexibilty & strength.
