If you look at a flat map it might appear LA is. But if you look at Longitude lines LA is 118.24148 West and Reno is 119.78949 West. Making Reno more west than LA.

Why? Because CA, the state in general maybe further west than Nevada, but the state actually curves east just below Point Arena all the way to San Diego.

Los Angeles is west of Reno. San Diego, however is east of Reno.

California is the most western state on the map, take a look, the answer is Los Angeles
