Anywhere you go in the North End, you can't go wrong. My personal favorite is Strega. . . .Also, off of the main area, and away from the North End is a place called Grotto. It isn't all Italian food strictly, but it's just a SMALL little hole in the wall place, and I've had the best ravioli of my life there. SO worth checking out, you won't be disappointed.

Pomodoro Boston -- My Favorite
Located in the North End, this small Italian dining room is short on size but big on taste. For savory pasta and seafood dishes made with fresh ingredients and expertly prepared sauces, you've come to the right place. Don't linger too long over your steaming plate of spaghetti and meatballs though because this spot is popular, and there is always a line full of folks waiting to descend upon your table.

As I was searching for their phone number and address, I came across a complaint about the restaurant re: people having to wait. Please be aware that on the weekends it can take forever to be served anywhere in the North End. However, once it is your turn, I promise you the food will be sensation. Everything is made to order. Special requests will be honored. I adore the rissoto with olives, the salmon and the veal. I have NEVER had a bad meal. The house wine is excellent and the bread is out of this world.

That is funny, I was going to say AVOID Mother Anna's. It is not authentic and the food is quite bad.
The North End is however, the best place for Italian food.
Go to phantomgourmet.com and click on SEARCH resturants. Then pick Greater Boston as region and neighborhood as North End and cuisine as Italian. They will give reviews and addresses and websites for the best places.
They vote Sage as the best.

I like Strega.

The North End is literally like going to Italy! Well, at least it gives a real flavor of Italian culture. I have eaten at a slew of Italian restaurants there and truthfully, in a 2 year period when I lived near Boston, I was never disappointed. It's like, eeny meeny miny moe... LOL Seriously, it's a GREAT little part of town!

My favorite Italian restaurant is Mother Anna's on Hanover St in the North End. Family owned for more than 40 years.
But any restaurant in the North End would suffice for authenticity and they are all good. Really.

Do you want Red-Sauce Italian or Northern Italian?
For old fashioned Red Sauce Italian, I prefer Rabia's on Salem St in the North End. Less crowded, better prices than Strega. (Which is good, but seems a bit too "trendy" for me).
For Northern Italian, Sage is a great option. They're in the South End - on Washington St.

La Famiglia Giorgio's is AMAZING. It is an upscale restaurant with modest prices. I had one of the best meals of my entire life there. It is located at 112 Salem Street. I would recommend the house salad, pasta with meatballs, veal parmesan, and the desert canoli. That's what I had when I went - it was like a 4-course meal or something. I'm sure everything there is good if you would like to try something else.

anywhere in the north end is the place to be! My sudgestion is the smaller the resturaunt the better the food because its more home made and they really take pride in their food. Also if you like wine then when you order your food ask the server what is the best wine to go with your meal and trust me they will know the best thing to have and its prob. something very hard to find and you'll just love it! Good eats!!!

Red Sauce is delicious, I'm not sure if they're still open though. Try searching "Red Sauce Locations Massachusetts" to find one near you. Hope this helps!
