There is this thing on my comp that keeps popping up. it says "Windows explorer has stopped working" when I click cancel another box comes up that says "windows explorer is restarting"

It pops up every 7 seconds (I counted) and is really annoying because there is nothing wrong with my comp. I let it run it's course and it goes away on its own but continues coming up. It doesn't appear to be helping anything either.

It's been like this for several days now and never stops. Does anyone know what it is or how to get rid of it?

Put your XP disk into your CD drive and restart your system. This will start the XP installation process. When you come to the screen that asks if you want to install XP or if you would like to “Repair” XP, choose Repair. This will open the repair console command prompt. At the prompt, type: chkdsk /r. (There is a space between the k and the /. Now hit “Enter”. The repair should now start. Allow it to run until it stops. This can take some time, so be patient.

If all goes well, XP will replace any and all missing operating system files.

Contrary to what you think, Windows "explorer" is part of your operating system...and this is a necessary process for your computer to work correctly!!!
My best guesses are..
1. You are horribly infected with spyware, adware, malware, viruses & Trojans.
2. You install something that the rest of the system's drivers don't like and now is cause problems with the rest of the operating system.
3. The Windows Operating system is now corrupt and needs to be either repaired or reinstalled.

Scan for Virus and just as important scan for spyware, if it was IE you could reinstall, move onto IE 7 if you have 6, or just get Fire-Fox bet browser I ever had.
