Yes, the movie is good--different from the book, but the same kind of humor. I think you'll like it--I read the book a hundred times and still liked the movie (but no, I won't see it a hundred times--it wasn't that great). And the POV gun was cool--and a great device to get you inside Trillian's head, which rarely happened in the book.

And seeing Ford with his towel is much funnier than reading about it. The books are much, much better, but the movie was a great chance to share this story with my friends who don't read.

The book

I've seen the movie, but not read the book. However, I've polled my friends who have done both. Their opinion is that the book is better but that the movie does a pretty good job of keeping to the book. There are a few changes to the depiction of one of the characters. ( I won't tell you which one.) There's a plot line omission (probably due to keeping the movie within a certain length of time), but more or less pretty true to the book.

If you're like me, I take "books made into movies" with a grain of salt and never expect that it would be as good as I imagined it in my head. I still enjoyed the movie... but then again, I never read the book.

Good luck!

There are actually 5 books in the series. They are now published in a single volume. There is much in the books that is not in the movie. I recommend seeing the movie but not as a replacement for reading the books.

The book is better. Actually out of the book, the mini series, and the movie. The movie is in dead last. The best is the old English mini series. I think its like 6 episodes. You can buy it on amazon or rent it from netflix.

I vote book, because of this-
Though the movie was quite funny and very well done.. cinematography wise, I found that the parts and little details left out of it made certain parts of it rather confusing. If those said parts were to have a little more detail like the book had.. I think it would have cleared up the confusion..

The e book is plenty greater effective. individually, I neglected the unique voice of Marvin from the radio & television shows. Alan Rickman does a solid job as continually, yet he merely would not have the comparable voice. The action picture veered so some distance from the e book. i actually hated the fact Zaphod had his 2nd head hidden decrease than the 1st one. could it particularly have been too high priced to CGI the 2nd head and third arm?

The book is far better, and their are five of them. I even like the old BBC version of Hitchhiker's better than the new Hollywood one. The humor is much more authentic.

The book is fantastic, and the movie was lacking. Its not bad, but it could have been a LOT better.

Not a good tribute to Douglas Adams.
