What are your favorite punk bands?

I'll answer the band part of your question. I love Crass, the Damned, Crisis, Born/Dead, G.B.H., Phobia, Amebix, Flipper, Dropdead, Christ on Parade and loads of others.

Any band hyping themselves as punk today would be full of it. Musical genres are so muddied now, it is hard to peg a band for what it is.
In my opinion, punk was in its pure form in mid to late 70's. It was a lifestyle and those practitioners were as serious as they were cantankerous.
Trying to revive the culture in this day and age would be futile as culturally so much has changed.

Being "punk" is a state of mind. It's making your own decisions and not just accepting what's handed to you. It's not Hot Topic or Fall Out Boy. All these kids in their "punk" uniforms make me laugh.

i don't know ...the kids who lived it....i've read about the culture but was too young to participate when the good stuff was happening...my favorite band is X but i like the buzzcocks, dead milkmen, the cramps, fugazi,minor threat, L7, nofx, sex pistols(of course) the ramones

sex pistols and the ramones are the headlining punk bands...
sex pistols for UK and Ramones for USA.
pistols are mine.....god save the queen, anarchy in the uk and other such hits.

i don't care about 'punk' 'emo' 'goth' or anything like that.
wat i like i do it...if i find a cloth that i like @ the shops i buy it. whether it's goth punk or emo.
just be me!
btw i don't really know in depth wat punks r. i just know they r those ppl who have wierd wild hair (usually pink), loads of tatoos and piercing.
