Thought I missplaced my cell..apparently either left it at local store or he took it as I was standing there..QUESTION is..when he asked for ANY amount of money{unspecified} what would you have done????

told him I am single mom and he asked for anything..no specific amount of money but gave location of whereabluts at a local gas station

He found your phone. He could have sold it to someone on the street, or he could have used it himself.
He asks for money because that's how he makes his living.
have compassion for the homeless and the beggars unless they are threatening you.

I have no idea what I will do until it happens but hypothetically I would want something in return for giving him what he wants. Right now I can not envision any thing that a man with nothing could do for me that would be worth an exchange other than some form of labor or service.

Give him some. It's the least I can do for someone who was gratious enough to return my lost phone. He didn't have to return it. Clearly down deep he's a good man and its very possible that a little money may allow him to change his life.

I would have told him to keep the phone, reported it as stolen, and claimed back on the insurance.
You lose nothing and get a new phone for free - he gets to flog the phone on the street.

Told him yes and arranged a meeting. Then I would have brought a few friends along. At the meeting I would have taken the phone - or beat it out of him - and left. Sounds like he is a bum.

are you ppl serious about beating him up what the hell. i would give him like $5-10 tell him to get some food go to a shelter get cleaned up and find a job

sometimes i simply tell them to get a job, other times i give two dollars AND tell them to get a job. but if he has your phone, try beating him up or at least follow him. if he gets away or wins the fight, shut your phone off through the company

call the police? dont give him money, and tell all the people on your contacts list not to answer if your # calls them. or you could call your phone company and shut down your phone

call the police and tell them the situation they will be more than happy to help you out. ask what to do. I'm sure they will help you anyway they can.
