there's no telling, from hair to makeup and such, if friends or family can help you get your dress or do your hair, if you rent a limo as a group or if you find a guy that takes care of it all...
The thing I'd be looking to save for would be your dress and comfortable shoes. I've seen nice dresses from $40 on clearance sales to $800 for brand new.
On top of that, I'm not sure if you're counting car payments as part of sr. year expenses, or going to the movies, or buying the $10 class shirt, or the $60 yearbook or however much it is for the class trip (I've seen from $100 to $1100 for those)

I host exchange students each year in Kansas. Here's kind of a breakdown of what they pay... (boys).
Various sports shoes $300-$400
Yearbook - $50
Prom (Dinner, tux, and part of a limo) $300
Various T-shirts for clubs, class, activities, $200
Senior pics (OK, I'm a photographer, so nothing, but I charge $100 for digital images -- add about $75 to that for the prints. This can go MUCH, MUCH higher if you're dumb enough to pay that).
Winter Dance (dinner, nice pants and shirt) about $200
Most of them also average about $100-$300/month for misc. expenses -- movies, fast food, etc.
Since exchange students can't drive, there are no auto related expenses here.
Hope this helps!

I've seen kids spend $10000 (yes, 10 grand) no problem. Mechanical Bulls and inflatable bouncing pits in the school parking lot don't come cheap.

As far as I know, public school is free. The rest is irrelevant. Focus on your education more than the graduation and you will have all the money you will ever want.
