If you're not using any sort of hormone therapy including BCP's, then yes. It is a simple blood test series (usually 2-4 draws) that measure a hormone called FSH (Follicle Stimulating Hormone). If it drops below a certain level, it indicates that menopause is occurring (called "peri-menopause").

You can do the same thing at home with a urine test called MenoCheck. It also checks for the same hormone as the blood test, but you won't have to go in to the office for several visits.

The sites below have some great resources and information regarding menopause.

All she will do is attempt them. I wasn't meant to have HRT using fact of medical historic past, yet i ultimately flipped out and insisted on it after months of night primrose oil and wild Mexican yam and DHEA did truthfully no longer something for the nice and cozy flashes, that have been very almost consistent. properly, the hormones did no longer fix the nice and cozy flashes the two. Menopause sucks. yet i'm curiously a complicated case. anybody else i understand who attempted any of the three supplementations i replaced into taking had extra valuable outcomes than I did. some people additionally swear by soy. by the way, she's in all probability going to ought to bypass to a gyno if she needs HRT. My GP does not supply them to me.

been there
right now you are pre-menopausal
but talk to your doctor she can give you estrogen pills to help with the night sweats and hot flashes
because your in for this for quite a few more years
depending on when you started your period
9-11 you could be about 48-50 (menopause)
i will pray for you --that it comes soon--good luck

Well from stuff I have been reading, it can be hard to tell from a blood test, because your hormone levels vary ALOT. I can tell you that I am the same age, and have been experiencing the same stuff for about a year now - so you are DEF not alone. Try Ivillage.com they have a forum and ALOTof good info on perimenopause - which is what we are in.....I myself have had good luck with black cohosh tablets - make sure they are a good brand. It helped the hot flashes especially. Good luck - you aren't alone & I know it SUX!!!!!
