C.C. Sabathia no doubt deserves to be on the team if not start the game. But who knows since Jim Leyland will probably be able to choose from a group that includes his own pitcher. If he does like Ozzie last year, Verlander will probably start but C.C. deserves it in my mind.
Jorge Posada is having an excellent year and I'm sure without looking that he is leading AL catchers but I think Victor Martinez has a early shot at beating out Johima as the backup catcher.
I think Grady Sizemore should be on the team too. You have several guys over there in the AL that should be on there as outfielders.....but most are just guys that can just hit the ball out of the park. I like Sizemore because he is a perfect 5-tool player. I've seen him make extrordinary catches and steal several bases. Yet he still hits the ball for power and average. Depending on how his next month goes....I think he has a chance.
I think another guy that will make it would be Rafael Betancourt. I looked at his numbers and what really impressed me is his K/BB ratio (25-2)...that means so far this season for every 25 strikeouts he has allowed just 2 walks. For a power pitcher that is good.
Like you said which players deserve to be on the team. These guys deserve it as of now....but once you squeeze in a representatives from teams like the Tampa Bay D-Rays, Baltimore Orioles, KC Royals, and so on there may not be room for all of them.

Remember, every team has to have at least one representative on the all-star team, so this will reduce the number of players selected from any one team. Although the Indians are having a great year I believe only Sabathia and Martinez will be on the team. Since your question is "who is deserving" I think you would have to add Sizemore and Hafner to the list.

Sabathia, Martinez, Sizemore, and Carmona are the ones deserving. Peralta has cooled off a lot.
I see Sabathia and Carmona as near locks. Martinez might get pushed out with Pudge and Posada probably making it too. Sizemore might make it but again there are a lot of good outfielders and his season hasn't been good enough to be a lock.

All have played well enough to make the all-star team. That doesn't mean they will all make it because there are snubs every year. There are only so many people that can make it.
