I thought it was the albatross but we looked it up and they are endangered but not extincted. It might have had a bigger wingspan than an albatross but I can't think of the name.

The Great Auk did not have a huge wingspan - it was about the size of a small penguin and flightless. There are various species of albatross, those with the greatest wingspan are the wandering, amsterdam and royal albatrosses. All are endangered but not extinct.

The South American teratoron ( Argentavis magnificens), which existed 6-8 million years ago, had an estimated wingspan of 25 feet.

That was all I could find, and I'm sure you were probably looking for something closer to recent times.
