One of my male friends who happens to be gay pulled this non-op trans woman to the side and said "you need to stop looking like that . You live in North Carolina. You make the gay community look bad."

I would love to say that the Gay community is one big happy family, but in my experience it has not been
I have met Lesbians who dont approve of the Stone butch couples, I have met Gay men who dislike Lesbians, etc.
I know to most people with all of the pomp and circumstance surrounding GLBT events, and how strongly we fight for equal rights that on the outside its all rainbows and glee, but unfortunatly its not.
Lets not even get started on self loathing homosexuals...............

I don't have the answer to this question, but I have seen women who are repulsed by lesbians as well as men who are uncomfortable with gay men. What I have seen is the women who do not like to see lesbians seem to take a moral high ground (believing it is immoral or wrong for two women to be together), and the men who are uncomfortable with gay men seem more threatened about their own sexuality (and I would assume this means they fear their own potential feelings). This is, of course, my observation and has no basis in scientific fact. I think this was an EXCELLENT question, and I think someone should do some research.

I don't have a problem with the trans community. In fact this year while hanging out at my favorite gay hole in the wall a str8 guy was staring something with a MTF regular at the bar asking questions like, "Are you man or woman?" etc. I got very upset mainly because it was on "our" turf. Anyway, the bartender (a friend of mine) saw I was upset and once I explained what was going on the guy got thrown out (by a lesbian which was kind of funny). I tend to stick up for people in my community.

Looking like WHAT? That's important!
For instance, I saw a couple of dumpy MtFs dressed as female, each with a wispy blond *mustache*, handing out flyers at some event in a park. If I'd been their friend and not just a passerby, I'd certainly have told them both to shave before coming out in public, and perhaps suggested a better choice of clothing. They were simply bizarre, and they didn't need to be!
But yes, as others have said, no matter how good or bad your friend's reason, you're overgeneralizing to a ridiculous degree. However, if you give us more details (compare the above), we MAY be able to suggest why your friend said what he said and whether it makes any sense to us.

As a MaleTo Female TS the sad but true part is their is one of thoose types in most bars/ events. There are some people that think just that we are a black eye on the gay coummunity, why I have no clue the good part is there VERY few and far between and there are so many people like all of you who have answered before me to make it no big deal.

What the hell not everyone can fancy you.

Special thanks to Corey I know how she felt and what you did shows a lot of class, thanks.

That is just one jerks opinion. Not mine.

However once ther was this OLD man in the bar and he only had on panties and a bra and some heels. The bra and panties did not match - I thought that was really tacky! I mean come on if you are going to wear women's clothing at least have some class about it!

So lets see, because YOUR friend had a problem with 'looking bad' because of a trannie, you naturally assume that gay men everywhere dislike transexuals, right? What other massive leaps of logic do you have to tell us about?

I personally love trans women. I think they're hot. But that's only my opinion

*Some* gay men believe that transwomen are gay men in denial, and are somehow 'betraying' their 'gayness', and dislike us on that basis.
*Some* lesbians (particularly 'radical feminist' lesbians) believe that transwomen are 'male infiltrators' trying to undermine womanhood, and dislike us on that basis.

Both viewpoints are completely wrong; fortunately, the majority of gay men and lesbians have more sense than to believe them.

I LOVE transexual women and drag queens. They are fun, colorful, beautiful and embrace life more so than most people. They have a great energy to them!
