Okay based on your question I might guess that you have Downloaded MAME from some where but it did not work for you. There are two versions of MAME, a Command Line version (DOS) and a Windows based version for computers. If you have Windows I recommend MAME32 (MAMEPLUS).

Understand MAME is only an emulator and comes with no games. You will need to get ROMs, BIOS, and CHD files placed in a folder named ROMS in your MAME programs folder.

I will be speaking of MAME32 for the rest of my answer.
I first have to say I personnel stay away from ROM HUSTLER, I do not trust their files and I dint like the POP ups.

Once you download the 7zip program install it and then unzip the MAME program. Place it where your going to have some room, because chd files are large 1gb+ and bios/rom files add up mb quick.

After you get any MAME32 program downloaded and extracted open the main folder. You will find sub folders for Cabinets, Cpanel, Flyers, Fonts, Marquees, Samples, ROMs, ect.......
What you need to do is open the ROMs folder and this is where "ALL" rom,bios,chd files go. AND ALL FILES IN THIS FOLDER ARE TO REMAIN ZIPPED **DO NOT UNZIP FILES**

Now open mame* the program will start up and you will see a list of game compatible wit the version of MAME you have. The best thing to do is to look for games you like to get and write down the name of the rom in the name ileum.

Getting started on the game search I say you go and get all the BIOS files first: Go here and scroll down to the chart under BIOS ROMS double click on each name listed and download files save them in the roms folder.

Next on the same sight you can do the same downloading roms from the USERS' FAVORITE ROMS chart and further down the page get roms in the MAME (ver) NEW/UPDATED ROMS charts.

Chd files you need to use eMule or BitTorrrent to find them and download them they are a bit More complicated and time consuming. After you get some games downloaded and in the roms folder start up MAME* again. This time after it starts press the F5 key and it will start to Audit your roms and know what games you have avalible. To see only games you can play click AVAILABLE in the first coleum. Now Hold down the CTRL buttom and Press F this will open a "Filters for Available Folder" put a check next to Non-Working and then click OK. Listed now should be games you can play.

Good luck it takes some time to learn the basic in's and out's of MAME but worth it.
