Nice question. I think the 20K game is more impressive, and I'd bet it's happened fewer times.
If I think about it, a perfect game is nice, but the defense does a lot of your work for you. Getting 20 guys out yourself, now that's impressive.
To the idiot who said ask someone who's done both, who should we ask?

There's been 17 perfect games and only four 20-K games, so just on rarity the strikeout games are harder to come by.
The perfecto indicates that the entire team was on its A-game that day. The pitcher obviously did a great job, but he had some help.
The big strikeout games -- and let's recall, we're talking Clemens twice, Johnson, and Wood back when he was worth talking about -- indicate that the pitcher, more than anyone else, was on his A++ game. (Consider, Johnson didn't even get the win, it went to extra innings.) It is much more an individualistic accomplishment than the perfect game is, but they're pretty close no matter what.
Realize that perfect games have been scattered across the length of major league history, whereas the 20-K games have all occurred in the past 22 seasons (and three were by two of the greatest strikeout pitchers ever to take the mound). Gameplay conditions have not changed enough in recent times to make another 20-K game, or even a recordbreaker, an impossibility. Unlikely, sure, breaking a record is supposed to be tough -- but not impossible. Peavy certainly has been getting batters to whiff with alacrity.
A perfect game will pop up again, probably between now and 2015. Another 20-K (or more) game? That's actually harder to predict, because it takes the right KIND of pitcher to do it, whereas a perfecto doesn't demand a specific archetype on the mound (and does require a bit more luck).
Can't "break up" a high-strikeout game as well.

Perfect Game!
27 straight outs is better than 20ks
A perfect game means you dominated the other team. With 20ks you could easily still lose.

Perfect game. In a 20K game, can still give up a hit, a walk, whatever, and still have a chance for the 20 k's.
If in a game, you walk a batter or give up a hit, an error, hit batter, etc. the perfect game is gone.
Robin Roberts, who pitched for the Phillies in the 1950's, game up a HR to the leadoff batter, then retired the next 27 in a row,(May 13, 1954)
He won, ended up with a 1 hitter. But no perfect game.

perfect game, no question.
now 20k vs no hitter, I'd go 20K, but if you throw 20 k's you'd be pissed if you didn't get a no hitter!
But the perfect game is the pinnacle of baseball, bigger then any, Any, ANY world series (and I'm in Boston!) Watch 'For Love of the Game' and just skip the non baseball parts and see how big of a deal a perfect game can be!

prefect game is more impressive because u as a pitcher can throw the 20ks cuz you now hwat pitch ur throwing and the perfect game relys on other thing such as fielding a close pitch that could go either way on a 4th ball or a 3rd strike

To me it would want to remember upon the completed occupation of the pitcher. there have been some pitchers which have pitched no hitters and such then you by no ability heard a component about them. So A participant should be choose on a occupation no longer very few video games. form of like if someone hit 5 abode rums in a unmarried sport (which no one has ever executed) yet perchance ended up with 20 HR's for his occupation. does no longer be considered an outstanding HR hitter. So basically because someone pitches a no hitter or acceptable sport, that doesn't cause them to an outstanding pitcher.

A perfect game! 27 up...27 down is complete dominance by the pitcher and his team. 20Ks is impressive but it doesn't mean the pitcher or his team was totally sharp.

I'd have to say the perfect game is more impressive. But if you are going on sheer volume, the amount of times the feat has been accomplished, then 20 strikeouts would be more impressive.

a perfect game is more impressive because you are guarantied to win. if you have a 20k game there could be a homer in on of the other seven outs.
