When I went to my first appointment they took a urine sample, weighed me and then put me in an exam room. The nurse came in and asked me alot of questions about family history and about my history. Then, the doctor came in and gave me an internal exam. He also wrote me up papers to go get bloodwork and an ultrasound done since they don't do it right there in the office. After that, they gave me some prenatal vitamin samples and some baby brochures to read.

All of the above should happen. If a blood test is not required, just to be on the safe side, even though you may be a clean person, have an HIV test to double check for the disease. It only takes 1 exposure. Do you want to keep the baby?? Protect the 2 of you.
If you have any allergies, defects, or real health concerns, drug problems; everything needs to be disclosed to help with the pregnancy.
Misinformation can cause the death of the fetus & possibly you too.
The doctor will do a vaginal exam to see how far along you are to pin point when you are due to deliver. Enjoy and trust the doctor.

Your obstetrician will weigh you and conduct a pregnancy test with a blood test . If you made the appointment as a "first check" they will not do anything else , but if it is set up as your first ob appointment , they will do a vaginal exam and then ask questions and allow you to ask questions. You'll be fine. Good-luck and the perfect book to get is " What to Expect when your Expecting."

They will most likely do a lab which means blood drawn to confirm pregnancy by medical standards. Then if you havent had a pap in the past few years they will do one of those along with an exam.. they will weigh you and take medical history. And give you and estimated due date.
And I agree with the above get that book its awesome for first timers.

how about a baby in nine months? the dr will probably do both a vaginal exam and draw blood and urine, give an approximate due date, and give you a prescription for vitamins. oh, yeah. and a lots-of-not-to-do-things list.

Well, since you ask what to expect, why not go out and get the pregnant woman's bible called, "What to Expect When You're Expecting".
It's extremely helpful and will tell you what to expect at each appointment.
Good luck-and congrats!

you will have an exam, blood drawn, urinalysis, pap if it's time for one, and if you don't know when your LMP was, they may do an ultrasound to date the pregnancy.
