A Challenge for the Actor - Uta Hagen
http://www.amazon.com/Challenge-Actor-Uta-Hagen/dp/0684190400
It's a book that my acting professors used in college. The exercises are great and help you develop the basic skills you need to be a believable stage actor. We'd go back and do them time and time again, because as you become a better actor, you create more and more challenging situations in the exercises.
