Like I've said before, please wait for the baby to be ready. Unless your doctor feels that you or the baby are at risk, there is absolutely no need to rush labor. I know the last few weeks seem like years and you are miserable but, for the health of your baby, please let nature do it's job. If you are overdue, and your doctor deems it necessary, he/she will induce you. Just relax these last few weeks.

Castor oil makes you want to go to the bathroom. The same muscles that push out waste are also used to push out your baby. Therefore, you may start having contractions. But you may just end up with diarrhea and more miserable than before. Good luck!

Castor Oil is NEVER recommended to induce labor and for several good reasons... The first is it usually causes diarrhea.. which can dehydrate you and your baby, obviously that can cause several problems.. Second as someone mentioned it can cause your baby to pass the meconium in the womb which is not good for the baby, if meconium is inhaled it can cause breathing problems that will last a lifetime (there have even been cases that meconium inhalation caused death). Thirdly castor oil can cause cramping and yes, it is possible it can start contractions, but these contractions would not be normal-hormone-induced contractions that effectively dialate and efface the cervix... the result is a prolonged labor with little or no progress, in which cases further medical interventions are needed.. most cases of non progressing labor end up as cesarean. Lastly at 36 weeks you are not yet considered full-term and any doctor will tell you that unless there is a true medical need, it is better to let your labor start on it's own.. I know you probably would like to not wait.... Give it a couple of weeks more and then there are things you can do to help start your labor naturally (and safer than the Castor oil).. Walking is a great one as gravity helps the baby decend a little bit more and the pressure helps sitmulate dialation, intercourse is also good as it creates the same type of contractions during labor and the hormone in the semen helps weaken the membranes. Climbing stairs (with someone with you to prevent an accident) is also a good way. I hope that is information is helpful and that you have a safe birth. Good Luck!

it could work, but then again it may not..I am 38 weeks and 3 days pregnant and i tried castor oil earlier this week..all it did was give me a good cleaning out and i since last week i have been dilated 2 cm and 50 % effaced and still nothing happened..I know its tough to "wait it out" as people say, but honestly from my experience no matter what you do, the baby is going to come when its ready. Apparently my daughter isn't ready yet and i have finally come to terms with that and to just get myself past these next couple of weeks..we don't have long after all..good luck to you!!

I'm 36 weeks also and I asked the same question 2 days ago.
Everybody was against it, they said it will give u runs. If your not almost into labor all ready then theres no chance. All it does is help you contract more. Which doesn't seem like it would help to me since i`ve been having contractions for the last 2 months and has been on bed rest with my fluids low, walking every day and im still pregnant.

i tried castor oil at 38 weeks and it worked. i went into labor (contractions) within 6 hours. HOWEVER, i did not dialate. i was in labor for 25 hours and eventually had to have a c-section. there's no way to know for sure, but i always suspected that my daughter was not ready to come out and had i not rushed things along with the castor oil, i might not have had to have a c-section.

You are not full term until you reach a full 38 weeks. Trying to induce now will not work. Castor oil is most effective if you are dilated and efaced even by a small percentage. You are too early to induce ,your baby is not full term yet. Please wait it out and let nature take its course. If you go over due let your doctor make the call to do anything to induce. Having your baby at 36 weeks is still a little risky. I know your anxious, but better to have a healthy baby then a sick baby that cant leave the hospital when his mommy does.

Sweetheart believe me you do not want to do that. Firstly your baby is not full term yet, at 37 weeks your baby is seen as full term. Secondly I drank Castor oil this afternoon and all I´ve had the whole day was stomach cramps and bad diarrhea.....

I had a midwife who lived a great distance away from me when I was pregnant. So, when she thought I was getting close to being ready, she had me drink a small bottle of caster oil mixed with tomato juice. It was nasty ,and I had to drink the entire thing. But within one hour I was in heavy labor! however, I was nauseated throughout the entire labor, but dont know if that was my hormones, or a side effect of the caster oil. I recomend talking to a professional about any side effects, but I have a healthy 5yr old son now.

Hey, I'm 36 weeks pregnant too and seriously, self-inducing is the last thing you should be doing at this point. Yeah, I'm uncomfortable too, but God....there are so many serious problems you could cause by doing this to your baby at this stage. Just relax and take your time preparing for the little one! We don't have that much more to go!
