You could do the journey by tube and train. Take a look at the Transport for London website for the Tube - you can take it to Liverpool Street or to Tottenham Hale (various lines) and then the train to Stanstead.

If you plan on going by road as follows:
M4 towards London the M25 towards Dartford then M11 towards Cambridge where you will see it signed for Stanstead. I would guess a journey of about 70 miles.

nationalexpress. coach for about 90 mins. no changes. much better and should be cheaper.
