the first time I had Japanese food I thought the Wasabi (mustard) was a side dish..and ate a table spoon full of it....not a pretty site..lol

Milk, like they said, er even beer, but NEVER touch your eyes (as you found out). The jalapeno spice is in an oil, and oil and water don't mix, so just using the sink won't help. Milk will break it up, and beer will too. Soap might. Sometimes it's better to take a baggie or something and put it over your hands before chopping, then take the baggie off when done and throw it away without touching the outside. This is called "learning the hard way". Hope you feel better.
