Call your county auditor's office and ask them for information on the property. Most county auditor's now have this information online as well and you can do a property search on their website and find out a lot of information on your property as well.

Look at Tax Records. This will give you a fair amount of info of the property. Your county has a website (or should have by now), if not go to the courthouse and ask for the tax card on your property as it is public knowledge

If you own the place most of the information can be traced back through the Deed of Trust (Papers). It will give the initial information about the property and where it came from. If you don't own the place you will need to follow tax records to find the descriptions and it will identify when it went from land only to housing.pp

The Best way is to go to your county tax records website. This website will a ton of information on your house. Most importantly it will have the date in which the home was built. You can Type into Yahoo (?? County Tax Records) and it will likely bring up this tool for you.
If you can not find this website or it is complicated to navigate, call a local friend who is a Realtor and have them do this for you. They should be able to do this quickly

Try looking up the Property Appraisers office in your County and see if you can do an address search. It should tell you all sorts of information as Age, Square Footage, Who has bought it and when and how much it was sold for, etc.
If you can't look it up there, call an appraisers office and ask nicely if they could do a lookup on it and tell them what information you need :)

Most tax offices have the year your home was constructed. For some historic homes, records are spotty. And in some rural areas, homes were built without permits and the date will not be recorded.
A call to your tax assessor's office should get you the information.

go to the city planning department and look up the street address. that will give you the parcel number, which can be looked up for permits etc.
if that does not do it, you can also go to the tax assessors office and look up the parcel number and it will tell you when the land was plotted out for development and any structures and when they were added. should be on the title search docs filed with the county recorders's office.
