About 6 years. I don't have to work and I prefer being at home with the kids. I have a very part-time job at a bookstore now that my kids are teenagers. Problem is, whenever I go in (about 1 day every 2 months) I end up spending whatever I earn. They should just pay me in books. I imagine I'll go back to work (or maybe school) when my kids leave home.

A little less than 3 months - by choice a few years ago. After graduating high school and going to college, I was out of work from mid August until late October. I wanted to make sure the transition was okay and my focus was on school and school only. Once I realized I could handle it, I went back to work.

I was laid off twice, once for about two months...that company was going under anyway and I knew it...the other time I left a job to go to a new job and the company folded the day I was supposed to start...hi-tech can suck at times!
Now I am self-employed...I'm not going through that again...

6 months for me, 2. Not a pleasant time at all. But 2 land a 2-bit job that paid crap didn't help. Fortunately I found a job right up my alley... and I love it.
Being out of work fahkin sucks!!! I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

7 years so far. I got married and because my love moves so often with the job, I haven't been able to get any work.
Truth be told I do rather enjoy it though! A bit of housework, cooking and general maintenance and then onto the computer for as much Yahoo as I can stand.
Not bad I tell you, not bad at all!

6 months for me too. Not by choice though. I was laid off and it took me that long to find a job. First time since I was 14 and got my first job!
