Why do you think black females and males are stereotyped as always being somebody's baby's mama/daddy and having babies? Most importantly what should be done about this? Not only are blacks stereotyped by other races, but especially their own, for example, Im a 23 year old black female, no kids, pay my own bills, and working on my pharmacy degree. I find that I am constantly asked by my other black co-workers or the black community "Do you have kids?" and when I say "no", they look at me in disbelief and then try to get offended!
I know this happens to alot of blacks, not just me. I just wanted to ask this question to see if anybody feels my concern on this issue. Contrary to popular belifs, there are many young black adults trying to handle thier business with as few interruptions as possible and I feel this hardly ever goes noticed.

Just so you know, white people have babies too. I'm a 46 year old caucasion woman and I chose to not have children. I have been asked since I was about 20 years old if I have children or how many children I have. It is not because you are black.
We are all stereotyped. I get all the blonde jokes. It is just the ignorance of others.
Good luck and contratulations on your pharmacy degree. That is a great choice. You can get a job anywhere you want to live and make a good living. Smart lady you are!

Sad to say you are right, but honestly I know a lot of young black females with two or more kids with different fathers. I also know white females in the same boat, but white females are stereotyped for other things, .. trailer park trash, rednecks etc...

You can let it bother you or be happy for the choices you've made in life that have put you where you are today.

LOL, I am a white female, well educated been living in a long term realtionship for 6 years, when peope see my daughter they ask me if i know who her father is. People are ignorant. They dont know when to shut up, so they keep sticking that foot in their mouth.

Because alot of people are close-minded idiots thats why.

There is still a lot of racism in America, no doubt about that. And its bullshit.

Doesn't matter what other people think of you, what matters is what you know is true about you.
