It could be another false lead like the sighting in Morocco or the telephone call last week. However, I do think that it is more likely now that she will be found dead than alive. Unfortunately, this is usually what happens in cases such as this. Its also been said many times that the media interest in Maddie could have made her a liability to her kidnappers if they had taken her for ransom money or whatever. I hope she isn't dead and that they do find her alive but I think that it is highly unlikely. In a way I hope this is the lead the police, the family and everyone else has been waiting for. Although it would be the worst outcome possible at least the police can then concentrate on catching the sick person who took her (who at the moment is walking free and could do the same again) and the parents can begin to grieve.

Im going to go on a limb here and say they won't find her. Sky seem to be indicating this new search is based on information sent to De Telegraaf which apparently is basing the fact the letter recieved was similar to one received which pinpointed where two other girls had been murdered. However the accused for those two is currently in jail so presumably the sender was either the accused in that case (in which case he's in jail so what would he know) or the letter is sent by a psychic who got lucky in the other case.

In the case of the psychic, since I don't believe in them for a second, then it means that this lead is as good as pointing to a place in a haystack and saying 'The needle is in there.'

We'll see, but I won't be holding my breath unless they find Madeleine. Don't forget some mad Spanish journalist is claiming she's alive and being held by 'The Frenchman' so there are all sorts of wild rumours flying about at the moment.

I pray this isnt true, but there is a story in the SUN newspaper (uk) saying a journalist has come forward saying that a child abduction ring leader called the frenchman has taken her but the police will not listen.

I hope that she is not dead but if she is, I hope the report is true so that the family can have a body to bury and have some closure.

But surely sniffer dogs will have searched this area if it is so close to the apartments? Sounds odd to me. Wouldn't that be an obvious place to look?

Edit - A thumbs down? Erm...why? For once I was implying criticism of the police rather than the McCanns.

Edit - Ah first report I read said 'near to where they were staying'. I took that to mean 'up the road a bit' kind of near. Just read ITN's report that says '15km from Praya de luz'. So my earlier comments and implied criticism of Police are invalid.

Part of me really hopes a body isn't found, but I can't help but think that the alternative 'Frenchman' paedophile scenario is even worse.

I hope not but to be honest i would be surprised if she was still alive. with the reward etc i think someone would have come forward. I just hope i am wrong.
Her poor family must be demented with all these reports, i really feel for them.

they obviously dont think that letter was a hoax.

im glad they (the portuguese police) are acting on it and not putting it to one side like they have seemed to have done with other pieces of evidence,

my wishful thinking hopes that Madeleine is not their though.

my personal opinions for the McCanns aside, this must be a truely horrific time for them

I heard a letter had been sent to a dutch newspaper, but it didnt give details.

To be honest as harsh as it sounds, I hope this letter is telling the truth. Whether she is found dead or alive, at least it will bring closure to the case and her family will at least know what happened to her instead of living their lives wondering.
