1.Bluetooth is a networking technology that does not rely on user control or large amounts of power. By keeping the transmission power to an extremely low setting (1 milliwatt), Bluetooth is ideal for mobile battery operated devices. Moreover, Bluetooth does not rely on the user since it can automatically detect and communicate with other Bluetooth devices without any user input.
2.Bluetooth is a high-speed, low-power microwave wireless link technology, designed to connect phones, laptops, PDAs and other portable equipment together with little or no work by the user.
Bluetooth is the name for a short-range radio frequency (RF) technology that operates at 2.4 GHz and is capable of transmitting voice and data. The effective range of Bluetooth devices is 32 feet (10 meters). Bluetooth transfers data at the rate of 1 Mbps, which is from three to eight times the average speed of parallel and serial ports, respectively. It is also known as the IEEE 802.15 standards. It was invented to get rid of wires. Bluetooth is more suited for connecting two point-to-point devices, whereas Wi-Fi is an IEEE standard intended for networking.

Blue tooth is a simply put a connecting two devices wirelessly. Example - Headset to your Cell phone.
But why is called Bluetooth? Lets travel back in time WAY back in time.
Harald Bluetooth was king of Denmark in the late 900s. He managed to unite Denmark and part of Norway into a single kingdom then introduced Christianity into Denmark. He left a large monument, the Jelling rune stone, in memory of his parents. He was killed in 986 during a battle with his son, Svend Forkbeard. Choosing this name for the standard indicates how important companies from the Nordic region (nations including Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland) are to the communications industry, even if it says little about the way the technology works

Well at a mobile the bluetooth is useful for transmiting data.if you have bluethooth then you can send music and other files to another mobile (if he has the bluethoth activated) at a distance of maximum 10 meeters. Some new Mp3-Mp4 players have bluethooth too and you can connect a bluethooth device to your computer and activate your mobile blue thooth and you can transmit data to:PC-Moblie or moblie-PC withouth using an USB cable.ANd you can even buy bluethoth headphones for your mobile so you can even speak and hear music on it.Its better that infrared because you can use that only at a very close distance so like when they are like sticked to each other.

Hi,
It is networking mechanisam for communicating each other. The Bluetooth allows you to connect a device with computer and allow you to communicate or contorll each other. The simple example for this is, It allows you to connect your Microwave oven with your computer and you can controll the operation of oven through computer. It also alllow you to connect your mobile with computer and allow you to transfer your datas to and from mobile to mobile or mobile to computer.
It is a type of wireless communication mechanisam or wireless networking mechanisam. But it has a limited area of coverage. It will not allow you to transfer datas above the limit. That is the disadventage os the siginal. It is now a growing technology. There are lot of other similar technologies like WiFi etc..
Hope you are clear with this reply.
Thanks
Sarath

Blue Tooth is a wireless technology for interfacing devices. It's used for those little headsets that people have for their mobile phones. I use it to sync my Palm Pilot and my computer. I use it in my car for hands free mobile phone.
