I dont smoke pot and I dont encourage recreational use of it. The reason why its in my intrest is because I beleive that spending $40 billion dollars of tax money on seizing a drug with little addiction potentual and only 3/4 of it on real dangers like meth cocain or heroin. This is a serious misallocation of government resources.

2007-06-13 03:33:16 · update #5

Should't we get of real drug danger like meth or cocain first!

2007-06-13 03:34:15 · update #6

I dont smoke it. I am a chemistry student and know alot about the properti. Yes marijuana is not good for you but its harm is minimal compared to other drugs so I believe it should be treated appropriatly with its true danger and not be a drain on our tax when there are further dangers. ( I dont support legalization but I support decriminalization which is different)

Decriminalization means it is still illegal, they just make you pay heavy fines rather then fill up with prisons take more of our tax money. But massive quantities, distribution, or use in motor vehicals do result in incarceration. Thats how it works in my state. Therefore our government is profiting from marijuana without it being legal

As a result of decriminalization taxes have plumitted. While marijuana users still get charged.

In my experience I've seen consumption of marijuana the direct result of fatal motor vehicle accidents. I've also participated in countless investigations where the distributors have attempted to "protect" their product by using lethal force.

You will find pro and anti marijuana statements from all walks of life and professions! However, when bullets start flying over gang related issues when a street corner dispute erupts or a user carelessly and recklessly drives on the highway with others present....marijuana or any other illegally used drug is NOT harmless!

Best wishes.

Sir,

Marijauna is considered a Class I narcotic and its use has been restricted by federal law since 1937. Penalties include fines and imprisonment.

Research has shown that cannabis acts to increase heart frequency by as much as 40 beats per minute. A study reported by The American Heart Association in February 2000, concluded that smoking marijuana can precipitate a heart attack in persons with pre-existing heart conditions. One hour after smoking marijuana, the likelihood of having a heart attack is four and one-half times greater than if the person had not smoked, according to the research.

An additional health concern is the effect that marijuana smoking has on the lungs. Cannabis smoke carries more tars and other particulate matter than tobacco smoke.

What is this, your social studies thesis?

Following my own rules here.....marijuana is a gateway drug which time and history have proven to lead to other drugs by both the user upping the high with stronger drugs and by the sellers who usually end up selling stronger street drugs to make more money.

I don't need proof, I am proof cause I grew up in the 60's and 70's near Ann Arbor Michigan where they throw the "Hash Bash" and I was a user.

15 years clean this October~!! Yeah!

Research abstracts, huh? Nah, not that interested.

I'm ok with legalization, myself. But you act as though you think marijuana is harmless, which is a stupid kind of pothead thinking. Is it going to devastate the world? No, of course not. But it does devastate individuals. It turns them into unthinking, uncaring people who have no motivation and serve no useful purpose for themselves or anyone else.

My personal opinion is that if people want to be that way, let them. However, I insist that we cut off all welfare benefits for users, because that's a subsidy that I'm not willing to provide. You do your thing, but you support your thing. Don't ask for my cooperation in ruining your life.

Your question was: "What problems does marijuana cause to public health and safety that aggressive raids have to take place?"

My answer to your question is: The cause of "aggressive raids” is over-zealous police.

In my point of view; If they taze 6 year olds in school, why would a raid on a pot smoker's home be anything other than "aggressive"?

Watch the 1930's movie 'Reefer Madness.' Talk about propaganda! Marijuana is a calming drug. I never heard of anyone shooting 20 people whilst on marijuana!

No more research, APA, Journals, personal stories, data, statistics, I have done enough. Period.

Above all the other (proven) negative aspects to it. Only one answer remains... Think of the kids.

Thats all.
