9/11 conspiracy theorist just asked why the buildings collapsed, instead of falling over like a tree when the planes hit them.

Seriously. People who make statements like that (effectively demonstrating their complete ignorance of structural engineering) expect us to believe anything they say?????

Three words: "consider the source".

Rosie O'Donnell said that steel doesn't melt at the temperature of burning jet fuel. She is right about that, but she neglects the fact that steel at the temperature of burning jet fuel has the consistency of chewed bubble gum. She also ignored the weight of the airplanes added to the building. It is a testament to how well those buildings actually were constructed that they lasted as long as they did.

That said, some people will believe what they want to believe, whether its true or not - remember the "Heaven's Gate" cult?

It's ridiculous, but it's not THE most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Still, if someone is going to accuse Bush of some sinister conspiracy to take over America by hiring Islamic terrorists to crash planes into three of our most famous buildings (WTC towers and Pentagon)... well, they should at least pay more attention to the news; after 9/11, the news explained several times why the towers collapsed straight down instead of leaning over.

That IS pretty goofy, but the MOST ridiculous thing I've ever heard was an Air Force Deserter call himself "The War President" and no one challenged his claim.

I saw the "Loose Change" video online, every minute of it. Then I watched a bunch of other ones. all claiming to have the inside story about the attacks on Sept 11.

So far, NONE Of them have all the answers, but in response to people who saw "Loose Change" and had questions about "pancaking", "pre-set demolitions" etc. the best resource I can point to is Popular Mechanics. IN 2003, they published an article which refutes every claim made in "Loose Change", from how the towers came down, to the "Loose Change" claims of a missile (and not an airplane) hitting the Pentagon. They talked to engineers, physics professors, etc to arrive at their conclusions and the article is most convincing.

While there may have been some aiding and abetting before the fact, in other words, Bush and Company may have gotten the warnings but deliberately ignored them in order to get their own version of Pearl Harbor and the attendant rage and fear America would feel after being attacked again, but I think that would be as far as it could conceivably go.

These days, you can't get 6 people to decide where to go to lunch without someone getting P.O.d, there is no way you could pull off a conspiracy of that intricacy without someone by now having spilled the beans, and it being splashed all over the so called "Liberal media". Besides, the risks of discovery are too great.

If America learned or discovered undeniable proof of the Administration's culpability in the attacks, (setting explosives to bring the Towers down, actual collusion which resulted in the live sof thousands of US citizens being lost, there would be such a groundswell of rage and anger at their elected officials, the US Government would cease to exist almost overnight.
Massive protests, riots, Grand Jury Investigations, the scandal would result in the complete dissolution of the Republican Party and "Neo-Conservatives" would be slightly less popular than Communist Lepers with AIDS and a paternity suit with your name on it.

Not sure anyone in the Republican party is stupid enough to think all that would be worth the potential profits Big Oil would make, but I have been known to underestimate stupidity before, so I suppose anything's possible. I never thought Republicans (who claim to love US troops, while cutting their pays and benefits) would go so far out of their way to villify and denounce the only true War Hero they have, John McCain, but apparently Republicans can be even more disloyal than I would thnk.

Well...you certainly seemed to be able to find all kinds of people in your camp...I guess they all have a thorough understanding and grasp of structural engineering. (Amazing, as most don't have a competent level of grammar or spelling.)

I am not a conspiracy theorist...but I must admit to being ignorant in the ways of structural engineering - sorry. And I would like an explanation of how the two buildings collapsed on their own - as well as building 7, which was not hit, in such an orderly fashion. Call me stupid, I guess...

Yes - they do find the wildest ideas.

Some things I have heard from the fringe:

An Israeli Special Forces team set demolition charges in the buildings and detonated them from a nearby location after their fellow team members remotely flew the 747's into the towers.

That Bush used mercenaries to take out the towers in order to put Homeland Security in play and allow him to start the War on Terror so he could get revenge on Saddam for the hit placed on Bush Sr

and many others

Baloney. I've never heard anything about the "tree" thing.
But the answer to your question is still, "No."

The most RIDICULOUS thing I've ever heard of is The Patriot Act. Which was a very long, meticulously written document passed very, very shortly after 911.

And virtually no one in Congress READ it.
They signed it because they were TERRIFIED of the mob mentality which overtook the country thanks to bush, immediately following 911.

The Patriot Act was written BEFORE 911.

And the buildings did NOT fall in a "natural way" but the "tree" thing I think you made up, or some neocon created an "alternate ID" to blow smoke.

Conspiracy theorist? How about plain Americans who want the truth?

Why do you people hate America?

I must say I love these conspiracy theorists. In the same breath they will also tell you that Bush is a dimwit yet they also believe that in the first 9 months of his presidency, he masterminded the worst attack on American soil since Pearl Harbor and has so far got away with it.

Physics and structural engineering are above the average 8th grade level of education which is prevalent world wide.

Ignorance is the lack of knowing, stupidity is knowing and doing it anyway. Go figure.

I think they are missing the most important point. How the WTC buildings were constructed. They were not conventional iron framed buildings. Actually they had a sort of exoskeleton.
