The Fraud'um Tower, er, Freedom Tower is a sorry replacement for the original Twin Towers.

If my history is correct, when the Towers were being built in the late '60s and early '70s, the people of New York hated them. But as time went by they learned to love them.

Now that they are gone, can't we rebuild them bigger and better than ever?

I'm very torn about this. I lived in NYC for about ten years in the 80's and 90's, several of them literally in the shadow of the Towers (Battery Park City).

There are a lot of reasons why they should be rebuilt - to show resolve, etc. And the skyline just does NOT look the same. I know that after 9/11, careful measurements were taken of many monuments and structures - the Statue of Liberty, the White House, etc., so they could be rebuilt if they were destroyed. So why not rebuild the Towers?

But on balance I say no. The site has become the burial ground for thousands of Americans - almost certainly the largest number of American CIVILIANS to be killed in a single day (an hour or two, really) in US history. Building the Freedom Tower and the other buildings on the site (but not on the footprints) does give a sense of "back to business." But we have to remember and respect the dead. The USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor was not hualed up and sold for scrap. We didn't build condos on the Gettysburg battle site. I hope that they struck the right balance between honoring the dead and moving forward, and that we grow to love the new skyline as we did the old.

And rebuilding the WTC as it was might be more ghoulish than not building it. It would be a painful reminder. We can build the Towers back, but not get our innocence back.

And the Freedom Tower is taller - 1776 feet!

Just my two cents' worth. All the best.

That was considered. I think Donald Trump proposed rebuilding them much like they were. In the end the decision was made to go in a different direction.

Rebuilding them was actually discussed. However, many Americans felt that this was disrespectful to those who lost their lives there and their families. It was decided that it was better to build more of a memorial to those who died there.

We could...but it just wouldn't be right. I like the FREEDOM tower.
You can't undo what was done...it should be made to reflect that.
