Here's a copy and paste from the FAQ sheet from my Darfur group when presenting to high schools:

2. What are the parallels between Darfur and Rwanda?

-Rebels attack government, and government response is to purposely kill civilians instead of only targeting rebels (e.g. non-combatants)

-World didn’t have appetite to go into Rwanda because of failed-state situation in Somalia, despite the fact they were quite different situations

-Rwanda: US and France held things up

-Darfur: China, and to a lesser extent Russia are holding things up

-Somalia: anarchy--no clear lines of command, multiple groups. Somalia became a failed state.

-Rwanda: two sides, each having a hierarchy which was adhered to.

-Iraq and Afghanistan are combining to create the same effect Somalia did. In neither of those situations was an active campaign of ethnic cleansing or genocide taking place (although Saddam committed acts of genocide in the past).

-Darfur is not about regime change as Iraq and Afghanistan were. In fact, the US government likes a lot of the administration in Khartoum, because they are cooperating on the War on Terror…

using unofficial militias and communities for the genocide, extremely than valid forces. previous that there is little comparable. Even the declare that it must be stopped by westerners isn't a similarity using fact this variety of intervention could must be considerably diverse, when you consider that Darfur could have required an occupation stress of years.

The differences are that one was in the Sudan, one was in Cambodia, and one was in Rwanda.

The similarites are that lots of people got killed by bad people in each one.

There. Hope that helps.
