Good question...I think some Branch's of Christianity believe that it is their Christian duty to be "missionary's" and bring the word of God to others so that they can be "saved".
Implying that if another person or culture practices a different belief system then they are "doomed".
Think of what the european settlers ("Christians") did to the Indiginous people when they came to american soil from Europe, they presecuted them for having a different belief system. When ironically that was one of the main reasons they fled their homelands to begin with ( lack of religious freedom)
The native american spirituality is (and was) more based in the basic teachings of christ than the "religions" that tried to convert them!
All religions are the same : Religion is basically guilt, with different holidays.
Remember many religions use spirituality as a tool for other means...power over their people, money, politics, basically CONTROL
If you look back in History ( or even today) every Dictator uses "religion"as a prop to keep himself in power.
Ask yourself
> Hum does Bush use religion this way?
>
In my book, the way I approach sharing my "spirituality" is by example, because
the best way to "convert" someone to your way (or religion) is by example.
People don't respond well to preaching, but teaching if they have asked for your opinion then give it.
Outside of that it is rude and invasive.
I have enough quite confidence in my own relationship with my God and spirituality, that I don't need to run around trying to convince others of anything. That ironically has prompted more conversations initiated by other people, which has allowed me to "share" my beliefs. Much more then if I was knocking on doors trying to "sell" it.
Basically...God is LOVE....some people just need it in writing.

Its beacuse of the Great Commission.
Matthew 28:16-20
"Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

It's because we are called to do that by Jesus' teachings. Many, like myself are very polite about it usually but others get obnoxious. According to the Bible, I should be spreading the word right now and I try to show by example but I'm not loud about it and so it takes a while to convert people.

You may notice Christians "inviting" some to the light becasue it is God's will for us to do so. He wants us to live a life of peace and glory, of course. But, He wants this life for everyone! So, it is our task to bring the good news of eternal life and peace through Christ to the lives of others who suffer, are confused, live in the dark or are angered by the world.
He made it clear to us when He began with the disciples, who were HIs first followers, that they were to reach the hearts of those around the world and spread the good news about Him. Here is the actual commandment to them, then to us...
Matthew 28
"All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
And so we have followed this commandment for that very reason. That is why you may notice Christians bringing peace and "good news" to those around you.
Peace to you always

It is part of the religion to "witness" (attempt to convert by spreading the word) to others.
