She doesn't like meat, so I have to augment her diet with nuts, beans, etc. I just don't know how much she's supposed to be getting.

Good Morning Mama, she needs between 45 and 60 grams of protein per day. We use 23 grams of protein every single day even if we never get out of bed!

read up on all other requirements here: http://www.faqs.org/nutrition/A-Ap/Adolescent-Nutrition.html

Take care.

one to two servings a day is sufficient. peanut butter, beans, and rice are good subs.

protein is really the least of your worries though. most people get enough, it's other vitamins that you should watch out for.

If she doesn't really care for meat, she may like some alternative vegetarian fake meat products. some have a meat like taste, others not so much. Boca burgers are the best brand.

morning star farms makes a wondrous ground beef substitute that can be used in spaghetti, tacos, etc.

these products are available in most grocery stores, in the frozen breakfast food aisle.

Kids and young adults, just like grown ups, need protein. As far as how much really depends on how active she is and how much energy she dispenses. You mention she isn't athletic, but being a teenager she probably is still growing some and therefore should eat 3 healthy meals a day. I don't think it is necessary for her to buy protein drinks and protein snack bars unless she runs, bikes, roller blades, ect. Good luck.
