How old? The radiator should look clean inside. Check belts, pump, thermostat. When engine is cold, open radiator cap, start engine and check for flow inside neck of radiator. Don't run too long as coolant will heat up quickly! Be careful and good luck! ;-)=

I have same problem on my Toyota Spacecruiser, but think it's due to a small leak in the cooling system, can some times be cured by putting the white of an egg into the water filler when the water is warm and running the engine untill it heats up to normal temperature. The alternative is to buy RADLEAK from the likes of Halfords.

Had this problem, had a crack in the head gasket, make sure to keep checking and topping up your water if needed then go see a mechanic. It might just be the thermostat of course.

Oh no I'm thinking head gasket :( is the oil in the top of your oil filler cap 'snotty' or does it look whiteish like there is water mixing with oil? Get this checked out ASAP at a garage before it gets very expensive!!

Besides what has already been mentioned, check that the cooling fan is working when the engine gets too hot. Just open the hood and look to see if it is turning.

It could be a million things. Have you filled the radiator with water recently? Also, check the fan belt.

Also check the thermostat.

check you coolant level, if its low, top it up. If this is fine, sounds like a thermostat problem.
