Its not that diffcult a task to imagine the change in how we looked back on the opinions of our presidents....Jimmy Carter may have been the on best list!

I would give that honor to Dolly Madison. During the War of 1812 she saved the portrait of George Washington when the British burned the White House. I wonder how many others would have the courage to do that. Another outstanding first lady would be Eleanor Roosevelt who was the eyes and ears of her husband as well as an ambassador accross the nation and around the world.

I think that would make FDR the best president.

But it is not really a fair system because Buchanan did not have a first lady.

Aren't you actually asking who the best first lady was? No President would be judged on their wife's accomplishments or lack thereof

I admire Betty for admitting she was an alcoholic and founding the Betty Ford Clinic.
