The mind is always looking to tidy things up. It likes closure and things that are complete. Often a song gets stuck in your head, because some of the lyrics or melody are missing from your memory. Your mind is trying to achieve closure by playing the song over and over in an effort to "remember" the missing lyrics. Just look up or listen to the lyrics or melody and you will be free of the irritating repetition.

By helping some one get it stuck in theirs. I use to do that to my shift leader. If a song was in my head I would sing it out loud or whistle the tune, then the next thing you know he was singing it. Some times people never realize that I put that song in their head. It's fun for me. I have lots of songs in my head.

I once had "American Pie" playing in my head for over a week. I finally decided that if I had to listen to this tune forever, I might as well make up new lyrics for it. That activity finally got it to turn off.

put your mind to something else...like a game or try singing another song. That always helps me because then I forget what I was doing before-hand.

haha it's called an ear worm.... the saying is that if you sing the song in front of some one else that they will catch the ear worm and you won't have it any more... *shrugs* that's what i've heard.

you can either listen to the song until you get bored of it, or occupy yourself with other things to do.
