i have a brand new house in middle of corn fields. last winter, mice squeezed under the rubber strip on bottom of the garage door. i adjusted the door down, but i think they can still get in. I found mouse droppings under the hood of my Supra that gets driven about 500 miles per year, and also in the air box. if i can't seal out mouse completely out of the garage, what can i do to keep them away from my car?

You can set a mouse trap or a glue trap. I would suggest tying the glue trap down to something if you choose to use it. The mice can get on it and still drag it. I wouldn't suggest poison. They can eat it and then crawl off somewhere in your new house and rot. Then that would be terrible. Plus if you have any pets the mice might carry the poison where your pets can get into it. I hate those little beety eyed rodents.

D-con or a cat. The D-con poison works best because once the mice die, the poison acts to prevent the bodies from smelling. Something about the way it acts keeps you from having a stinky garage. You might still find dead mouse bodies, but they won't smell like they normally would.

Cats or rat terriers work pretty well too. Ask me how I know? ;) I live in the middle or corn fields too in a fairly new house, but haven't seen a mouse since we cleaned up our scrap wood pile. 3 cats and one rat terrier have a bit to do with that! :)

Get some DeCon (not sure on the spelling). Check with Home Depot or Lowes. They have it.
Place that inside the hood of your car.
If you have pets, be careful.

The poor little mice are trying to find a warm place to sleep.
I don't think you can completely keep them out. They can squeeze through the tiniest spots.

Mice can get in anywhere. The main issue is your car. Mice, rats and squirrels have caused car fires by chewing on wires. Check for chew marks. I suspect if you leave your hood up the rodents will loose their cozy place to nest.

I wish I could remember the source of this answer. Years ago I had mice in my apartment and I really didn't like killing the critters. They were hungry or cold. Somewhere on the web... maybe farmers almanac I learned about using peppermint extract. Mice hate it. Got rid of mine.
