I think it impossible to choose or agree on a greatest novel ever written but we must not fail to mention the first person to write a 'modern' novel - Jane Austen. And many think Emma to be the best novel writing she did (although it's not the most popular.)

In China, "Hung Lou Meng" is considered to be the greatest. I have seen 2 movie versions. Once, I rented that title in Houston when I visited my oldest sister. I told her it was based upon China's greatest novel. It turned out to be an X-rated version. I laughed, but Sis is prudish and sadistic, so she said, "No wonder there are so many Chinese." Shall I transalate that title into English? In Germany, Goethe's works are best. I am not certain which I'd name as best. Japan's "Tales of the Genji" is hailed by many as great. Homer's "Iliad' is a masterpiece, but I am not certain it is called a novel. Shakespeare was England's greatest writer, but he wrote poems and plays, not novels.

"Night" by Elie Weisel.
It is not my favorite, and I did not enjoy it, but it is at least one of the very best. Its content is what makes it the best-- not MY judgement. Who am I to say or judge such a thing? I have not read every book ever written. I say this book because it is the first one to come to mind (besides the Bible or whatever) that tried its very best to make humanity see something wrong about itself.
Any book that is trying for the same thing is pretty flippin' sweet in MY book. We humans need to have our faults thrown in our faces-- that is what makes the greatest novel.

the guy that invented the photograph novel remains the suited. Will Eisner. His novels are actually not superhero of even journey memories, yet they evaluate desirable to the suited literature of the 20 th century. study "a settlement With God", "existence On yet another Planet", "Invisible people", "To the heart Of The typhoon", and "Minor Miracles" (as properly as particularly some others) to be sure what a photograph novel could be. to no longer take something remote from the titles that the different solutions listed, maximum of them are somewhat good, and could be study, yet Eisner replaced into the grasp. all of us that got here after Eisner is coping him whether or no longer they comprehend it or no longer (and maximum comedian writers and artist will brazenly admit that he replaced into the suited ever). it somewhat is the reason they named the utmost award interior the comics and photograph novel industry after him. the suited series is in all probability Cerebus by Dave Sim. It has intense factors and occasional factors, and should no longer be study it products. It lasted 3 hundred matters (the longest working autonomous series) and to be liked must be study from situation a million to situation 3 hundred. All matters are reprinted in low-fee commerce paper back.

LORD OF THE RINGS!!! THERE IS NO OTHER ANSWER!!!
I would say that the Bible is the greatest book, not the greatest novel. Novels are fictional, after all.
