I think he'll die because he'll never really be able to live a happy life after how much he's lost. It would be bittersweet.

They're not really children's books anymore, either. There's too much death and destruction for them to be classified as "children's books."

First, I believe that Harry lives, because it is a children's/YA series after all and the central character of such series never die, JKR will not buck that canon.

And about the idea Harry is a horcrux. Harry is not a horcrux!
This idea makes no sense in light of the prophesy for one, and why would Voldemort put part of his soul into someone he might have to fight anyway. If he kills Harry, he's wasted part of his soul. Also, I reject the idea that Harry became a horcrux as an unintentional byproduct of the rebounding of Voldemort's killing curse. The byproduct is known and is the empathic bound between the two, and that's all, IMHO.

Remember too that all the horcruxes have to be destroyed before Voldemort is vulnerable to death. If Harry is a horcrux, then Harry must die first, then Voldemort. So it would mean that Harry would have to loose a killing curse at Voldemort just after Voldemart loosed a killing curse against him--that is very tricky timing!.

I take the prophecy to mean that vanquishing Voldemort it Harry's job--no chance that Voldemort becomes vulnerable with a Harry sacrifice and with Harry dead, someone else kills Voldemort.

She's given some clues in previous books--they're not ones that jump out at you, though. The original prophesy did NOT say Harry would defeat Voldemort--it said one born on the last day of July would defeat him. Neville Longbottom was born the same day, and he's getting a lot stronger with the DA classes. I think he's the one who'll ultimately defeat Voldemort. After all, he has to live with how much his parents suffer from what Voldemort did to them.

I think Dumbledore is alive, after all. Remember, at the beginning of the 6th book, he went to the Weasleys and warned them that the Deatheaters had learned to duplicate others, and to always identify each other with a password. It was never mentioned again. And "Dumbledore" would never explain about his deformed hand. I think Wormtail was turned into a Dumblebore look-alike, but the spell didn't work on his silver hand.

Finally, I think Harry and Ginny have to stay together. They have something special, and she's loved him since the first book--J.K. Rowling wouldn't destroy that.

No one could ever "overtake" the book when she is dead. But I seriously don't think in the end of a seven-part series, a character that's she loved and worked with for seventeen years, that she could seriously just kill him off like that with no regret. I know when I write stories and I have to kill off characters I get rather emotional myself.

After all, in the end, it is a child's book, and the main character couldn't possibly die.
I think either Ron or Hermione will die.
I kindof hope Harry calls me up and asks me to go out with him.

I think Harry will die because JK Rowling likes to surprise her readers (who ever thought Sirius or Dumbeldore would die?!!) and because as you said, she didn't want the book to sorta be continued with him moving on into adulthood and stuff --- if she didn't kill him off, she herself may be tempted to write more!

However, he may also not die --- just based on the prophecy. Because if he dies, and the prophecy is true, it means Voldermort lives and that's the end of the wizarding world as we know it as there will be no Dumbledore either.

So I really haven't answered your questions but another month or so and we'll all find out!!! Yay!!!

And to the previous poster who said Ron or Hermione will die ---- NOOOOO---Ron's my fav character!!!

I don't think he'll die

Considering the age group that the books are aimed at and also I don't really see it good triumphing evil if the main character dies.

He'll defeat Voldie, end up with Ginny and have a happy ever after.

harry will die. the prophecy says neither will live while the other survives. that means that both harry and voldemort have to die. it also fits the formula for the story of a tragic hero, which harry is in many ways.
