As I was reading these answers I was thinking - don't really know (sounds like no one else does either)...everything in moderation though, so I can't imagine it hurting to have a bit for a snack. I was getting ready to say that the only thing I have ever made a horse sick with was pumpkin...it was an old pony and he colicked very badly. The only thing he had gotten into was the pumpkin insides we threw over the fence. Since Paws and hooves hasn't had a problem, though, maybe it was something else that bothered him...

NO NO NO NO NO NO. DO NOT FEED THE HORSE BROCOLI. Broccoli is a food with a lot of sulfur in it, as well as cauliflower. It will give the horse bad gas because of the sulfer and then you will have a very bloated and in pain horse. It is not a good idea to feed them broccoli, but they do like carrots, tomatoes, apples, celery and pretty much everything. But research it before you feed it to them. It may be harmful to their stomach to digestive tract. Just because they like it, doesn't mean it is good for them.
If you do choose to feed it to your horse, do not give it very much as they can handle SMALL amounts. While it is true that broccoli does have many beneficial vitamins in it, fresh broccoli has more sulfur than you think. Be warned and feed only in moderation. A colicing horse is no fun horse.
Hope this helps.

I owuld check w/your vet or do some research because broccoli has sulfur in it and will give your horses gas possibly. The horse might feel uncomfortable, and this could lead to a gas colic.
It should be ok, but just make sure.
Good Luck!

It is actually GREAT to feed horses broccoli. Broccoli has a natural chemical in it called diindolylmethane which helps horses live longer and blocks cancer cells. Diindolylmethane has other great properties to. I hope your horse lives long.
Comebacks to other answers: Broccoli does not have to much sulfur, look it up on the Internet. Horses should not eat dog biscuits or to much bread.

I've never heard of anyone feeding broccoli to horses. It may be O.k., but check with a vet first.

A little bit here and there is okay if they like the taste and don't have finicky stomachs, but I wouldn't go giving them tons of it, it's a bit like cauliflower and will make them fart and I wouldn't want to risk colic because of it

ours loved all kinds of veggies and fruits. watermelon, carrots and apples were their choice. just make sure you do not overfeed and above all NEVER give them spoiled or rotting food. fyi our horse was 34-35 when we lost her last year. she had owned us for 30 years.
