For a four-stroke motor it will almost certainly SAE 30 as previously answered. Briggs and Stratton instructions demand that only SAE 30 be used, NOT multigrade like 10W30. This SAE30 oil is available in the garden departments of most stores.
For a 2-stroke motor special 2-stoke oil must be mixed with the fuel. The amount varies from engine to engine. If you do not have the instruction manual, search the engine brand and model on the net. You may have to get this oil from a service station. Some service stations have 2-stroke fuel premixed.

If it is the type of engine with a separate oil filler. Then use regular SAE 30 oil.
Don't use a non-detergent, they are not tough enough for modern engines.
Don't use 10W30 oil because it starts out too thin and will result in excess oil consumption.
If the engine has no separate oil filler, then you need to mix the oil with the gasoline.
This oil is referred to as Two-Stroke oil and is available anywhere oil or outdoor power equipment is sold. Generally it is mixed at a ratio of 1 part oil to 40 parts gasoline. If your engine requires a mix, it will usually specify on the tank.
Hope this helps.

If you have a small motor like a Briggs or Tecumseh you can use either 10w30 or sae 30w it doesn't matter because your motor has a slop oil system and is not under pressure. If you have a filter that screws onto the side you probably have an oil pump in which you need to pay more attention to what the manufacture suggests.
