i leave my computer on over night most of the time. when i woke up this morning i heard a weird clicking noise when i came down. when i tried to move the mouse the computer wouldnt respond, the screensaver stayed up. so after a few minutes of control alt delete, moving the mouse, and hitting keys i held down the power button to turn of the computer. when i turned it back on it sayed primary hard drive failed...press f1 to continue press f2 for setup utility.

is there any possible way i can save the information on the hard drive. there are some really important files on there. i can buy a new hard drive and just run my computer off of that but i really need some of the files on there.

I am really sorry mate.... I also leave my computer on every night, but h-d hasn't failed yet. I suggest you buy a new h-d and a good one that lasts and have backups often. I have never heard of recovering data from corrupted h-d's. Try going to a pc store with it and c if they can do it manually.

There are data recovery programs, but if you don't use them often they are expensive. See if one of the computer shops or repair places near you can do it or at least tell you where to contact to find out about what it would cost to have it done.
Also what happens when you press F1? I have a bad drive in this computer and the new one will be here Friday, but mine just says hard drive problem, press Enter to continue. then it will boot up.

Data recovery is very expensive. Maybe you will learn a hard-fought lesson from this. Back-up!!!! I could probably get most of them back for you, but you need to STOP trying to reboot it. IF you have a hard drive crash, which it does sound like, the more you play with it the worse chance you have of ever getting anything back at all. There are companies where you live that specialize in data recovery. I am sorry.....

Check you ide cables havent came loose on the hard drive. If you do buy a new hard drive then use the old one as a secondary drive and see if you can acceess the files that way.

You will need to take it in to a place that does data recovery.
and pray a little...they should be able to get the data from it. they can even put it on a new drive if you are ready to buy one.

see above for another option.
