What kind of helmet are you looking for? If you want a full face helmet the best (and most expensive) one out there is Arai. I bought a Shoei RF-1000 Camber for $400 and I am very happy with it. You need to go to a store and try on a couple different ones. Because I tried on an Arai and didn't like how it felt. Everyone's head is a different size and shape and a motorcycle helmet needs to fit perfectly because if it's too tight you'll get a headache but if it's too lose it will move around and will not be safe. In summary, helmets range anywhere from 200 to over 1000 so it's basically up to you how much you want to spend to keep your head safe. I decided to go the middle of the road and my helmet is extremely comfortable and worth every penny.

I have an HJC helmet that I like a great deal. Of course, Arai helmets are really nice. So are the Dainese helmets, which many have bluetooth for phone use..way cool. Other good ones are Shoei and Suomy helmets look really cool.
It really depends on your head size/shape, what color scheme you want to match and how much you are willing to spend. Best idea, just go into a shop and try some on.

All the top brands make a good helmet (e.g Shoei, Arai, Bell, HJC, etc.) It will come down to fitment. For me, at the time, the 2 that fit me best were HJC and Shoei. There was a $300 price difference, so I went with the HJC.
So, recognizing that all make a decent helmet, it will come down to fit, and then features, such as air-flow, look, etc.

I like a full-face helmet, with the piece across the chin. Bell used to make good helmets, but I haven't bought one in a long time.
But remember that you're buying safety equipment here, so take your time, look for one that fits well, and is comfortable. a $10 helmet is only good for a $10 head.

I have 3 helmets: a HJC half-helmet, a Scorpion EXO-200 open face helmet, and a THH full-face model. I use them for different situations. Of the three, the Scorpion is the better helmet. It's the one I use the most and is the most comfortable.

Watch the Moto GP or the World Super Bikes and pick the one you like the best, that is if you are looking for a Sports Bike helmet.
Then go to a bike/helmet shop and try them on. If it fits and feels good then buy it.
There is NO COMPROMISE for a good helmet.

I have owned many different brands over the years(buy another bike, buy another helmet) and I would say the most comforatable and well built is the Arai, but they are not cheap. There are many good brands out there, bell, shoei, hjc, etc. Find one that fits correctly and is dot approved and you should be fine. Good luck.

Lose the helmet. The sound of the wind is more of a turn on than any canned music piped into a helmet. Save the MP3 player for home or the cage.

For me, Arai makes the lightest, best fitting, and most comfortable helmets. Of course, the price is a little steep.
