While it could be argued they deserve punishment for their abysmal form in the last few matches, the fact remains that West Ham cheated, and should not be allowed to prosper as a result. The premier League handled it incredibly badly and the actual opinion put up by the original tribunal was a farce 'unfair to punish West Ham fans???' - what about the fans of everyone else affected by the decision??? However, i think Sheffield should be reinstated with the place being made available by relegating Liverpool for failing to play more than a training ground eleven in a match that could easily have relegated Fulham the week previous to the last games... but then 'failing to field the strongest side' is no more than a nominal offence these days, is it????

No, although West Ham acted wrongly, if you reinstate Sheffield than you would have to award and deduct all the games that Tevez ever played in, that could even mean that Man u shouldn't have won the title. Too many implications so it'll never happen.

A quote " unfair to punish West Ham fans???' - what about the fans of everyone else affected by the decision???

When the decision was made and up to and including the last game the fate of Sheffield Utd was in their own hands. The decision did not influence either way how the league finished. To have deducted points would have.

NOT.

United's reinstatement is not the issue, it is (hopefully) a by-product of the issue ;which is Fairness in Football.

West Ham cheated and lied; they admit this; it is not in question. What is in question is the fairness of the sentence given to them by the original tribunal, especially compared to sentences handed out to less favoured clubs for less serious offences in the past; and in the consideration of WH's staff, players and fans; but no other clubs'.

The tribunal admitted they were lenient and could have had points deducted from WH. This is the issue - were they fair in not doing so.

it should just be left to how it is, west ham were not deducted points because it was under new ownership when it was being investigated, the guy who owns them now did not own the club when teves and whats his face arrived so it would be unfair to punish with a points deduction. i'm sure if you just brought a house and the last owner didnt pay their electric bills and etc your would not have to take the rap for them, and iincase you wonder i dont support west ham, leeds is my team so i'd be more happy about sheff utd going down still.

Yes, of course. West Ham flagrantly broke the rules and fining them is not the answer. Personally I would always use points deduction as a punishment for infringement of rules except in the case of clubs going into Administration. Most of these clubs survive but are then left 10 points worse off making them potentially worse off. The league should help these clubs not hinder them I would also introduce points deduction for poor disciplinary records.
