Actually. Film acting is more real than theatre acting. In simple terms, all an actor has to do is deliver the truth of the scene. In theatre, you have to project yourself and over exaggerate some things in order to appeal to the auditorium. So your reactions and understanding of the subtext of what's going on has to be noticeable, though still credible, even though the way we would deal with such context in real life would be a lot less "dramatic". Not knocking theatre actors at all- that's tough work!! But on screen, the camera is your best friend (as Michael Cain would put it). Less is more, so the camera will pick up all the minute things you would do naturally when reacting. All those muscle twitches and blinks of your eyes that someone at the back of the theatre would not see. Our natural reactions would be a lot more understandable on camera. Film, theatre and books are three considerably separate disciplines. People get very butt hurt when they are compared.
