Council communists will easily know this one. The question is more about the root of what went wrong, and not everything that went wrong. I don't expect most people to see it, but, as a little clue, it has to do with two concepts related to revolutionary leadership.

I actually think that it is the same thing that goes wrong with every structured form of thinking, from communism to capitalism - it gets perverted by the incredible greed and gluttony of the leaders, that whole power thing.

Socialism got overtaken by Communism, because of a very old adage(true nonetheless). Absolute power corrupts absolutely.

No ISM can survive without peoples support.ISM create Dictators where people get suffocated and feel isolated.
