I'm an Irish student working on an novel right now and I was wondering if anyone could help me create some fake Irish village ot town names that don't exist. However they must be realistic and can be in english or Irish. Please help I have a complete writers block and being from Ireland all I can think of is real Irish towns!

Ha, ha

Why don't you try mixing up the names of bits of real Irish towns,

eg,

Carrickford
Lucanavar
Tullaglass
Ennisford
Mullinmore
Killease
Millnagree
Castlemallow
Ballinmeath
Portmullagh

How many do you need ?

The best thing that you can do is to write down the names of two towns, take a portion of both words and join the two portions together. For example if you took Connemara and Belmullet you could come up with Bellemara.

I never have writer's block because there are two methods that I would choose. Write down your ideas on paper, or think of a long word and try and think of as many words as you can, only use the letters in that word. You may just need a break, so why don't you forget about dead lines and leave your writing for a few days, and by doing that you will come up with fresh ideas.

You are better qualified to come up with a fictional village or town in an Irish setting because you understand the language and the land.

I wrote a short story placed in a small rural town called Laredo Junior--a place outside Laredo, Texas. There is no Laredo Junior that I know of, but I created it anyway to suit the characters in the story. I also used an Atlas to learn what towns were near Laredo because I used them in the story.

Guess what? I've never been to Laredo, Texas.

I love the word Periwinkle. Wouldn't that make a lovely little Irish village set in the woods by a stream?
