I think it may be helpful.
My friends from the US who've visited me here in Japan have had no problem taking back martial arts goods such as 'throwing stars' and such in their checked luggage as long as they declared them.
Good luck!
Hope this helps!♡

Taking out or bringing in?

In either case you'd have to stick them in your checked luggage and you couldn't bring them on board the plane. I've seen martial arts gear such as swords, nunchaku and sai put through in checked luggage without an issue.

The most things they're concerned with is that you don't bring in any drugs, porn, real guns, too much alcohol or foods on the prohibited list. I've been through Narita customs about 5 times and each time they just asked a few questions and waved me through. I never had my bags checked, but then I never carried anything illegal and never gave them a reason to suspect me.

You should be fine, after all air soft guns are sold all over the place in Japan.

No. there's a clean state regulation that expands what public components people can carry weapons (now including public transportation, in parks and activity components and in eating places that serve alcohol). even regardless of the undeniable fact that, on July a million (a similar day the regulation went into effect), city officers declared the airport a "gun-unfastened zone." Gun advocates filed a lawsuit to combat that. The Governor of the state mentioned he'd like his spouse to be waiting to have a gun whilst she travels. A listening to is scheduled for August 11. till then it somewhat is unlawful to have a gun on the airport.
