Cant seem to find info anywhere and doesn't say on leaflet i got when i had it done

I know for sure that antibiotics affect the efficiency of the pill, cause I got pregnant while taking bc pills and antibiotics. I would think that since the implant has similar hormones, I would use alternate protection while you are taking the antibiotics, and for about a week or two afterward, cause some of the antibiotics stay in your system awhile. I'd use condoms as a supplement.

Contraceptive implants are not affected by oral antibiotics as the progesterone passes directly in to the circulation, unlike the pill whose absorption though the gut is altered by the effect of antibiotics on the gut flora and digestion. Your doctor should have known this already, but a simple glance at the drug data sheet would have told him this, had he not been too lazy to check!

As far as i know it works the same as the pill so if i were you i would use a condom while you take the tablets and for a further 7 days after just to be on the safe side

Hiya hun,

I'm not sure if the implant is similar to the injection, but anti-biotics don't affect the injection. You could call your local family planning clinic, or NHS direct, they will be able to tell you, if your still concerned, use condoms as well.

Good luck and hope your feeling better soon
