One thing that you can do is go to goggle, and type winrar. Then look for the results:
"WinRAR archiver, a powerful tool to process RAR and ZIP files WinRAR provides the full RAR and ZIP file support, can decompress CAB, GZIP, ACE and other archive formats.

Buy WinRAR archiver - www.rarlab.com/shop2rarlab.php?prod=winrar
RAR - www.rarlab.com/rar_archiver.htm
What is a RAR file - www.rarlab.com/rar_file.htm"
What I do is click on download, and use that to open the rar file, and then I usually restore the computer as to like a day or two before, and then the unzipped file should remain in whereever you saved it.
This way, it is free, and tiy can use it again, and again, with out paying.

OK if you are running some form of Windows -
either WinRAR ( you can get a 30 day trial of this ) or buy outright.
or 7-Zip - a completely free archiving program for Windows that will uncompress rar , zip etc etc formats. Probably the best for the Windoze world.
For Linux -
install Peazip which will open all format of archives without problems.
if you still want to insist on using Windows software then just run WinRar under either Wine , or Crossover.
All will work fine - don't know what is available for Macs.

There are a variety of applications on Windows to open .RAR files, and while the default choice is WinRAR by the developers of the .RAR file format, it’s not free. If you need to create files, that’s your best bet, but if you just need to extract them, you’ll want to use the free and open source 7-Zip application instead.

A rar file is another compression file, like Zip files.
You need WinRar to open it.

There are other applications that will also open them.

If you're on a Mac - just search for ".rar." in the Mac App Store and you'll find a lot of stuff.
Have a great day!
